New FEAR Acronym

For a long time, I have heard it said that FEAR is

  • FALSE
  • Evidence
  • Appearing
  • Real.

This FEAR acronym didn’t connect with actual fear in my mind. Why? We fear things that are real more than things that are false. Many fear the truth because it hurts, but many also fear lies in the form of defamation. Lastly, many will go to great lengths to get rid of real evidence out of fear that someone will discover it.

On the other hand, many avoid failure because its uncomfortable or exposes our natural ignorance. Some even avoid using the word failure too.

With that said, replacing FALSE with FAILURE’S in the FEAR acronym makes logical and relevant sense. Subsequently, I propose tweaking the FEAR acronym from FALSE Evidence Appearing Real to

  • FAILURE’S
  • Evidence
  • Appearing
  • Real.

This minor change makes the FEAR acronym relevant and relatable too. Why? For the most part, failures are unavoidable! Many associate uneasiness and negative feelings with failing.

The good news is that we all succeed by learning from failures daily. Yet, no person is exempt from the daily need to learn from (overcome) failures due to a lack of knowledge, talking, thinking, and acting imperfectly, having blind spots, and more.

In addition, I propose redefining FEAR as an alert system designed to protect us from repeating failures and danger.
